James Richardson Artistic Director

IMG_3818James is the founding and current Artistic Director of Third Wall Theatre and a graduate of the BFA (Theatre) program of Memorial University of Newfoundland. Three years later in 2001 he began, on a whim, one of the most important award-winning theatre companies in Ottawa – Third Wall Theatre Company.  Since returning to Ottawa he has directed many successful productions for Third Wall including The Importance of Being Earnest, Murder In The Cathedral at Christ Church Cathedral, The Chairs, Peer Gynt, Old Times and currently playing Antigone.  He has also directed for various companies at the Ottawa Fringe including 100 Watt Productions and for the Ottawa School of Speech and Drama’s Senior Acting Company which was a sleeper hit of the fringe in 2009 with a play called Chatroom.  Some of his favourite acting credits include The Dumbwaiter, Clockwork Orange and Sex Is My Religion – all in Ottawa.  As a sound designer James has worked at OSSD and Third Wall and some of his favourite productions include Connections, The Empire Builders, Greek & recently Blackbird. A self-taught piano player James also composed music for five of Third Wall’s productions including the complete score for Brecht’s Mother Courage And Her Children.  James is no stranger to starting theatre companies he was a founding acting member of the now famous Gros Morne Theatre Festival in Newfoundland and Theatre By The Bay in Corner Brook, Newfoundland.  He lives in Downtown Ottawa with his fiancé – actress Kristina Watt and their cats Pascal & Masha, as well as Luke &  Lucifer – their 2 geckos. He is an avid orienteer and at last years Canadian Championships he placed 1st in his category.
